Rhodes, Greece

Our next stop was the island of Rhodes as seen from our ship. It looked just like a castle in medieval times only with modern day buses and cars. The Apostle Paul traveled here on his 3rd journey. (Acts 21:1)

The old port was protected by the watchtower and windmills. Rhodes is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe.

Suleiman the Magnificent conquered Rhodes in 1522. The Turkish invasion had 400 ships and 100,000 soldiers. It took 6 months to capture Rhodes from the Knights Templar. There were 700 knights, 500 archers and 7500 men to defend Rhodes.

There were Knights Templar who were German, French, English, Italy...8 total. Crest on walls above their houses.

The Mosque of Suleiman. He gave the Knights time to leave the island and never tore down any of the buildings or churches there.
